In class we've seen a few remixes, there have been some funny ones, but also weird ones in my personal opinion. While I was doing some research I came across ones I truly enjoyed and was inspired by. Here are my top 5
1.) This one is the Donald Trump vs Mexico Supercut. This was by far my favorite one thus far we've seen in class. It had me laughing, however it was so well edited and put together that it inspired me to want to maybe remix the debates and make my remix something along the lines of what this one does. It is funny, however it still gets the message across by expressing the political views of a certain candidate.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WCrWIeb74MI&feature=youtu.be
2.) This remix is a Taylor Swift mashup between her two chart toppers "Bad Blood" and "We are Never Getting back Together." I really thought this edit was epic. It mashed up two songs that have nothing to do with each other into one song that made sense together. It also represented Taylor Swift as who she was around the "We are Never Getting Back Together" release time, into who she is now with "Bad Blood." There are several changes in her look, lyrics, and videos. This is a really cool remix that also inspired me to want to mashup her videos.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-dZZKxxHPjE
3.) Here is another one that has to do with a classic song and our very own president. I thought this was cool because it seems so simple, however it is so complex to match up word for word to the song.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rrB718F3LeI
4.) The fourth one is The evolution of Peggy Olsen by Elisa Kreisinger. After I read the article about her and wrote a response I wanted to look up her videos and see what they actually were. I think this one is clever. You can tell what the message is behind all the cuts, however it leave a bit of mystery so it makes you pay attention more.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S1QdZgVTIB0
5.) Last but not least we have a Bachelorette Remix. I thought this was pretty funny in a way and very well put together. It basically makes the two bachelorettes in love with each other instead of being in love with the guys of the show. This is one of my favorite reality shows to watch, and this was actually my favorite season so watching this and remembering all the scenes while watching this remix made me laugh, and think to myself how did this person create this?

brainstorming
I think the remix project is going to be very fun once I get the hang of premiere and all its uses. In class I was kind of confused on what all the controls were and how to add music, and mute things however by the end I was cutting and moving video. I think a few ideas that I've had while looking up different remixes online were going a mashup of music videos by the same artist, or something having to do with politics, such as mashing up the republican debate with the democratic debate. I'm not sure if these ideas will become to hard for me to handle, but it's definitely worth a shot. The way I've been gathering my samples mostly from youtube. I feel as if their videos have the best quality, especially music videos because of "Vevo." I have saved Taylor Swift's bad blood video as well as her blank space one. I think those two would be good to remix together!

Remixing or Copyrighting?
After reading "How a Video Artist Made a Don Draper a Gay Rights Mouthpiece," I believe it is okay to remix things, as long as your following the rules and giving credit where it is needed. Her remixes go from Sex and the City's Carrie Bradshaw, to Jay-Z and Taylor Swift in sync between songs. She says, "People like to see their identity represented in the stuff they put online." I agree with this statement because people express all different kinds of aspects of themselves on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook nowadays. More and more people are on social media each day posting, liking, tweeting, and everything else under the sun. You can tell a lot about a person from their social media accounts.
This article is mainly about her working towards not getting her videos removed from Youtube for copyrighting. For six months she worked with Eye-Beam Art and Technology as well as Public Knowledge to create "Fair Use(r), which is "an exhibit that explores fair use law and documents her efforts to protect her art from takedown notices on YouTube." She uses a lot of pop culture in her work because it's a common language we all can relate to. So technically her videos are not piracy because under the fair use law artists are permitted to "repurpose excerpts of copyrighted material without the permission of the copyright holder so long as the material is being used for commentary, criticism or parody." I believe this is appropriate because she's taking something and making it into something new and fresh. Remixes are a really cool way to express yourself, and your views on certain things.
I think remixing is okay to do as long as you are obeying the fair use law because otherwise you are copyrighting, and shouldn't be able to post it on the internet for people to see. If you want to get the word out, and have people view what you've created, just follow the law and don't break it. It may be hard to avoid when doing these remixes, just as Kreisinger says, however she is a perfect example of what not to do and what to do when making these videos. She says, "if you don't use a right, you lose it," so everyone should keep that in mind when making these videos.

Internet art: Chapter 1
After reading chapter 1 of our textbook Internet Art, I decided to look further into two of the figures mentioned in the reading. The first is Heath Bunting, and the second is Natalie Jeremijenko.
Heath Bunting, is a British Artist out of Bristol, UK. His work is based on the development of open democratic and communication systems and social structures on the internet and in the public. He started out in the streets with graffiti and performance than went on to pirate radio and now is an active person in blowing up the internet. He is the creator of net.art and his work is exhibited in museums all over New York, London, Germany, Berlin, England, and Moscow. He has his own website as well called http://www.irational.org/heath. On his website it states that, "he is banned for life from entering the USA for his anti genetic and border crossing work." He has had multiple works of art permanently deleted from the internet by the UK security services. Also on the website it says he has been, "detained, arrested multiple times and classified as a terrorist by the UK security services for his art projects." Here are a few examples of his works.
Natalie Jeremijenko, is an artist and engineer who studies biochemistry, physics, neuroscience and precision engineering. She is an active member of the "net.art" movement, cofounded by Heath Bunting. Her work primarily deals with society, environment, and technology. According to inspirtationgreen.com she works at NYU and is a director of the "xDesign Environmental Health Clinic." What this clinic does is allow "people to come in with their environmental concerns and get prescriptions for environmental health solutions and advice. One of the prescriptions was to create more greenery in NYC." Also, in our textbook it talks about her creation of Live Wire. Live Wire is "a formal element vitalized and composed by network activity, creating an association between minimalist sculpture and the internet." The work also leaves the door open for an "increasing focus on formal expression." With Live Wire, Jeremijenko's intent is to emphasize the representation of internet concepts and to expand the foundation of net art that followed. Here are a few of her works as well.

Triumph of the Nerds
So I'm going to start off by saying this video was longer than I expected, however it was very educational. I learned more about how computers and PC's became so advanced, and why GUI and personal computing is so important.
Xerox started something called a think tank, called PARC. PARC was to think ahead into the future of personal computing and how it could take over the market. The first computer worked on was called "Alto" since it was created in Palo Alto, CA. This is the first computer that had GUI which is, a type of interface that allows the user to interact with electronic devices through graphical icons and visual indicators. However the GUI on Alto allowed the user to drag things to a floppy disk and drop it in; this was very advanced at the time. The Alto was also able to connect to other computer via ethernet which was also advanced.
Steve Jobs, founder of Apple, then took it upon himself to view PARC and check out Alto. He then got the idea to create a GUI for the personal computer. He made it his goal to create a GUI that did not use "text-based" interface like DOS. Jobs called this computer the "Lisa" which included the new GUI, however that upped the price. The Lisa was not a success because of increase in price, so Jobs teamed up with a man, Jeff Raskin, who began exploring the idea of a lower priced computer that later turned out to be, Macintosh. Macintosh, was the first affordable PC with a unique GUI interface. Sales skyrocketed in 1984, however that was the only year they were up. Sales started to slow, so they decided to team up with Microsoft to come up with software to be sold only for MACs. This software was called laser printing, however from the title you can already assume the word "expensive." This resulted in Apple taking another plummet in the market, and shortly after Steve Jobs was out of a job.
Bill Gates, owner of Microsoft, saw the future of GUI and decided to expand it and create his own. This GUI became a huge success because it was linked with DOS OS. Mac tried suing for "looking too much like MAC" however, they lost the battle. Microsoft continued to be created, and was soon called Microsoft 3. Because of the unique GUI, and abundant amount of programs, Microsoft 3 blew up the market leaving all it's competitors in the dust.
I thought this video was cool because learning about how computers and laptops evolved and the history of them was very interesting, and comparing that to today's market is kind of crazy.

Pictures are worth a thousand words
When I think of me, I think of what makes me, me. When starting this project I was unsure of how I was going to just pick 20 things, because throughout my life there has been a lot of things, people, etc who made me the person I am today. However, I wanted to just have fun with this project and show everyone in the class some of the important people in my life, what I like to do, and some of my favorite things in this world. To show you a little bit about me, I pieced together a collage in the shape of a heart. The heart represents what makes my world go round, and represents who I am.
The pictures you see in this collage may give you a different idea, if you had any idea at all of who I am. As you all know already I like dessert, so no worries that is represented on here. Other pictures include family, friendships and relationships while others represent my daily eats and favorite locations. A picture is worth a thousand words, which is a saying I most definitely agree on. You can tell who a person is and what their interests are from the tiniest amount of photos. There is so much more I could have put, but here are 20 pictures that I think depict me best! Welcome to my life :)

Thoughts and feelings on project 1
From the moment I read about the project I was excited about it. I like thinking outside the box and being creative, so therefore I found this project fun, however I was very frustrated when trying to piece it together. My project consists of 20 pictures about my life in the shape of a heart, in square form. Making a heart out of 4x4 square pictures may look easy, but it is definitely not. I took a lot of time placing the pictures so you could basically see the entire picture with nothing getting cut off. The challenge was fitting all the pictures on the poster board, and making the pictures look like a heart. Some insights/skills I gained from doing this project is creating a work of art having to do with my life and how to fit that on twenty pictures. Another hard part of this project was taking new pictures, and not using old ones you have taken over the summer or before that. However, once I started I got more of an idea of what pictures I wanted to take, and how I wanted to edit them. I chose to do black and white because I wanted the colors of my pictures to match, but be of different objects. I also had originally printed out 25 pictures, but unfortunately had to cut them due to the space on the poster board. However, I do like the pictures I took and put together because they explain who I am, and what makes up my life.

Relevant Figures
The first relevant figure that stuck out to me in the text was Dr Grace Murray Hopper, the first female to be involved in the development of sophisticated languages for computers. I believe she is important because not only did she immensely help out with the development of COBOL (common business oriented language) she was the highest ranking Navy officer of her time. To me this is amazing because for one she was serving our country both military wise/technology wise and it shows that women are capable of doing anything a man can do. She also is noted for her discovery of the first computer "bug" which is still important in today's computers with viruses and all except the bug she found was an actual moth inside the circuity of a computer LOL, however it has been preserved at the Museum of American History in Washington D.C.
The second relevant figure I'm choosing to write about is Steve Wozniak because I don't think he gets enough credit for the starting of "Apple" along side of Steve Jobs. He is a computer scientist best known for the inventions of the Apple II computer. He and Jobs actually worked out of a garage to make a "user-friendly alternative" to the other computers being introduced at that time. Wozniak was the brains behind the invention, while Jobs was the marketer. Apple was founded by both, and Wozniak created the Apple I, then created the Apple II, which was part of the personal computer series, which shot apple's stock up into the 900 millions. Sadly, Wozniak terminated his employment with Apple in 1985. I think Wozniak goes unnoticed for his contributions to the start of what is now one of the largest companies in the world. Without Wozniak's computer genius skills, would Apple be where it is today? I'm not sure, however I'm giving a huge round of applause for Mr Wozniak for founding the company and being the brains behind the technology.

American Psychosis
American Psychosis is about how our world thinks, feels, and acts. A quote that stuck with me throughout the entire reading of this article is in the very first paragraph. It states, "day after day one lurid saga after another, whether it is Michael Jackson, Britney Spears, [or Miley Cyrus] enthralls the country...despite bank collapses, wars, mounting poverty or the criminality of its financial class." I one hundred percent agree with this statement. America is consumed by celebrity media, we live for it. Am I saying I'm not one of those people? No, because I am. I can say that I read more about celebrities, than I do world news. I do think this is wrong because America should be reading more about poverty and how we can help out, and we should care more about bigger problems like bank collapses rather than where the Kardashians are eating dinner. A statement that I didn't agree with is "we can do anything, even belittle and destroy those around us, including our friends, to make money to be happy and become famous." I disagree with this because America doesn't work like this. If everyone lived by that statement there wouldn't be an America, there would be no love and trust, or happiness. I also will defend celebrities here as well because I do believe "most"...keyword being "most" celebrities have worked very hard to be where they are now in their careers.
To answer the question of if I think social media is creating a problem or being part of a solution, I think both. Social media has indeed engulfed America. I know I'm on twitter, instagram, snapchat, and Facebook multiple times throughout the day, which isn't necessarily a bad thing but it's not good either. It's a huge distraction, but at the same time beneficial because being at college away from family and friends is hard, and social media gives me the chance to see what they are up to and communicate with them through messenger, tweets, or 10 second selfies to each other.
So to sum things up I think social media is advancing America with respect to ways of communication and being kept in the loop with news, politics, friends, and family, however it can also be very distracting and dangerous with celebrity news, gossip, and cyberbullying.

To Do List: Project 1 Edition
Since this project is a self portrait without selfies my list will most likely be food, scenery, some more food, some of my favorite activities, family/friends, and did I mention food???
I think the three shots that are allowed to be old pictures will be a picture of my family, a picture of my friends, and something I took on a vacation or just at home. My new photos will be shot on campus most likely, at restaurants I've gone to since I've been here, and in my apartment. I also just recently joined a sorority so I will be able to add a photo or two having to do with that. I love anything nature so scenery will play a huge part in my collage along with food because that's also a huge part of my life. I'm hoping to maybe get to the beach as well over the weekend and I know I can get some great pictures there. Some other locations could be Starbucks, the River Walk, and the International Plaza. Since this project isn't due till next week I have a lot of time to gather my thoughts and ideas together for this, and snap the perfect photo over the next few days. I've already started and I think I have a grasp of what this project is all about.

I've been googled
When I looked myself up on google I didn't know what to expect because I have never actually googled myself before. I typed my name and clicked search; there I saw pictures I had uploaded, my social media accounts, and also pictures of friends that have some relation to me. I found this quite odd because normally you see pictures of famous people on google, so I guess if I'm on google that makes me #finallyfamous right? Anyways, I think my presence online is important because nowadays when you go to interview for a job most times they do look you up on google and do a personal background check on you. I think when creating social media pages such as Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter, you need to be cautious of what you post, because even if you delete it the world wide web could still have it. Being careful on media sites to me is very important because a simple tweet, picture, or post you may think is harmless could actually be offensive to others, it could prevent you from getting your dream job, and others may think of you in a way you don't want to be thought of.
Ways to prevent any of the above from happening would be to make yourself private first and foremost. You never know who's watching and keeping your information like where you live, your age, and school open for people to see could potentially be very dangerous. Next, don't post things that aren't pleasing to the eyes, whether that be a comment about politics, or a picture of your friend doing something they shouldn't be. It's best if you keep that amongst yourself. Lastly, yes we're all in college, there will be alcohol, drugs, and many other things we get exposed to, however if you choose to participate in anything, make sure it doesn't hit social media sites. For one, it doesn't look good to anyone, second, people aren't going to like you better for posting a picture popping a champagne bottle, and finally posting snap chats of you smoking hookah pens is not going to make you cooler. If there's any word of advice I could give it would be this, just be yourself and don't let your posts on social media define you.

#Technology
Personally, I think its absolutely insane that the iPhone only came out 8 years ago, however without this glorious device, I would be lost. This smartphone has changed my life in a huge way. I use it for absolutely everything, from texting, instagramming, tweeting, taking photos, and even making those monthly phone calls to grandmother just to check in. If I didn't have a smartphone I would feel out-dated and old. I feel like I would miss out on the latest trends, new music, and the most recent Kim Kardashian #selfie...not that I really care about that at all. That was just a joke. Sorry Kim. I'll put it to you this way, if smartphones didn't exist I, and the rest of America would be living under rocks.
Some of my favorite apps to use on my iPhone are, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, the Weather Channel, Pintrest, and the Starbucks app because, well, come on guys its Starbucks. I definitely recommend all of these, but if I had to choose two out of the bunch I would say Instagram and Twitter. These apps allow you the freedom to post pictures/videos, follow other people's posts/tweets and by clicking on a simple hashtag, it opens you up to a sea of pictures with the same hashtag, so you can see what other people are posting halfway around the world. I think this is a really cool concept, and I mean if you didn't post it, it didn't happen right?
So to sum it up life without a smartphone would not be so great. I once didn't have a smartphone and thinking back to that in comparison to the devices we have now it's mind-blowing.

Hi my name is...
Hello, my name is Daniella Jaconelli, and I am 19 years old, but turning 20 next Tuesday! I just transferred into UT and I am loving it so far. I'm from Mount Laurel, New Jersey so a little ways from here, however being here does feel like home. I've been visiting and vacationing in Florida since what feels like forever ago, and it's always been a goal of mine to attend college in this beautiful state. My favorite things to do are going to the beach, shop, read, and hangout with friends. I also like adventure, I like to be on the move and always doing something. My favorite place in the world is Disney World, so being about 40 minutes away from there makes me one of the happiest girls on earth. I also am a very family oriented person, they mean everything to me and I'll always be there for them.
My first impressions and feelings of this class are very good/positive. I looked ahead to the first project and some others as well and I think they all have a really unique concept to them. I'm always looking for something new and fresh and I feel as if this class will definitely bring that to the table. I am looking forward to learning more about digital media production and engaging in discussion and self-expression.
